Gujarat ropes in huge investments

AHMEDABAD, May 16: British investments in Gujarat amount to Rs 1463 crore in 26 projects as part of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the state, according to Gujarat Industrial Investment Corporation (GIIC) chairman, S K Shelat.

He was speaking to first secretary (commercial) of British High Commission, Peter McCoy, who paid a courtsey call on him here today, according to a GIIC release.

Shelat told McCoy that GIIC had invested in 55 joint and associate sector projects with an investment of Rs 225 crore and added it is one of the major development financial institutions which has sanctioned total cumulative term loans of Rs 2133 crore upto 1997-98.

The corporation has started an innovative scheme of infrastructure funding under which it has sanctioned approximately Rs 100 crore in last one year for power, port and road projects, the GIIC chairman said. Meanwhile, McCoy agreed to utilise GIIC's services for promoting more FDI by British companies in the state.
