WASHINGTON, May 16: United States has launched a new six-ton satellite to spy more effectively on India and Pakistan, according to a magazine here."The satellite will be able to spy better than earlier satellites on India, Pakistan, and other countries from the Middle East to China and North Korea," Aviation and Space Technology has reported.
The satellite, code-named "Orion" was launched on May 8 from Cape Canveral in Florida and will be fully operational within weeks, the report said.
Orion is equipped with a 100 feet antenna which can eavesdrop on thousands of communication circuits and frequencies, providing insights into military, political, and economic policies of the targeted countries.
"No radio transmission or telephone call will be secure from monitoring by the U S," the magazine said. The picked-up data will be interpreted by United States Intelligence services, it added.
Intelligence services have been quoted as saying India was able to track U S optical and radar spy satellitesoverhead and thus conceal activities at the nuclear test site.
The inability of United States intelligence to predict the tests may lead to a larger fleet of smaller spy satellites to cover the world's "trouble spots" more frequently, it reported.
