Vajpayee will visit Pokhran on May 20
The Prime Minister AB Vajpayee is likely to visit Pokhran, the site of India's nuclear tests, on May 20. Vajpayee's visit is intended to take a leaf out of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's notebook, who visited Pokhran in May 1974, days after India exploded her first nuclear device.

BARC secret programme will be transferred to the Defence Ministry
The 30-year old secret programme at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) will be transferred to the defence ministry. Along with this, the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) is expected to take control of the rare metal plant near Mysore where enriched uranium is being made.

Pak-made arms found in Surankote
The army in the early hours on Saturday seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition after heavy exchange of fire at Nerian forests, 10 Kms from Surankote. This was its first major operation in the militant-infested Surankote township after the killing of four persons there.

Nuclear tests in Pokharan baffle seismologists
India's triple nuclear blasts at Pokharan on Monday have given raise to doubts which seismologists say can only be answered by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). The tests released energy equivalent to 55,000 tonne of TNT, or about five times that of the nuclear test in 1974. However, what is puzzling is that while the 1974 blast produced a seismic signal of 5.0 on the Richter scale, the latest blasts produced a signal of only 4.7.
