Christians stage protest against Pak in Lucknow

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
LUCKNOW, May 17: Christians today staged a demonstration before the Vidhan Bhavan here to protest against, what they say, oppression of minorities in Pakistan.

The demonstrators, belonging to the Christian Welfare and Development Society, burnt an effigy of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and demanded Pakistan be declared a terrorist state. They also chanted slogans against the Pakistan government.

A memorandum would soon be submitted to the Pakistan High Commissioner in India demanding adequate security to the lives and property of minorities in Pakistan, the secretary of the society said.

Recently, bishop of Faisalabad, John Joseph, had committed suicide by shooting himself in Sahiwal (Pakistan) on May 6 in protest against the death sentence passed by a session court against fellow Christian Ayub Massih charged with blasphemy under the Blasphemy Law.
