Assistance for musicians
Mahila Mandal and Bhajan Mandali artists of Mandvi taluka were given assistance of Rs 5000 per head for buying musical instruments under the State government's welfare scheme. Mandvi taluka's scheduled caste and scheduled tribe artists were also given Rs 5000 by development officer of Mandvi taluka, besides seven people, who were given Rs 3000 assistance each in the year 1987-88 for giving birth to a girl-child.

Presentations
Toral Kapadia, a class 12 student, who represented India as one of the eight Junior Ambassadors at the Asia-Pacific Conference in Japan, will give a presentation on Anne Frank's Anne Fran The Diary of a Young Girl and Neha Joshi, also a student of class 12, will give a presentation on Joe Silva's Silva's Methods of Mind Control by Mental Dynamics on the completion of two years of the Book Lovers' Forum, on May 21.

AIDS workshops
Two six-day training workshops for providing skills for HIV/ AIDs counselling began from May 14 at the Government Medical College here. The workshops are being held with technical and financial assistance from the State AIDs Cell and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. Associate professors Dr Pradeep Kumar, Dr M J Samani, professor (Dr) J k Kosambiay, from the Government Medical College, are the trainers for the workshop.

New newspaper
`Dhabkar', A new Gujarati daily to be edited by Mayur Pathak and published from Surat, will hit the stands tomorrow. Union Textile Minister Kashiram Rana presided over the launching ceremony held on Sunday at the Gandhi Smruti Bhavan while noted journalist Kuldip Nayar launched the daily. Mohan Delkar BJP MP from Dadra and Nagar Haveli, State Law Minister Hemant Chapatwala, Mayor Navneet Jariwala were present at the function.

AIA allegations
The Ankleshwar Industries Association (AIA) has condemned the alleged `harassment' by Central Excise and Customs department employees. Excise officials, they alleged, were demanding money from mill-owners and were also threatening to register false cases against them.

The association has send a fax to Union Textile Minister Kansiram Rana requesting him to intervene and punish the culprits. AIA has also warned that if no action was taken, it will be forced to agitate.
