Oriental Bank hold Telecom

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, May 17: Stung by a first half goal by underdogs Delhi Telecom, Oriental Bank regrouped and managed a 2-2 draw in the DSA Institutional League at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Sunday.

A complacent Oriental team, despite having Delhi's highest-paid player, Dharmender Kharola , in their ranks, went through the motions as Delhi Telecom's Naresh Kumar, in a solo move from the left flank, cut through the Oriental defence to put his team ahead.

Pumped up by the lead, the Delhi Telecom forward line moved into top gear and Naresh Kumar's long ranger scraped past the crosspiece to prevent Oriental from staring at a 0-2 scoreline.

Kharola and Co. woke up to keep the Delhi Telecom goalkeeper, Ashim Seel, busy with goalline melees for a while before Dharmender headed in to pull off the equaliser barely a second before half-time.

An inspired Naresh Kumar, allowed plenty of room by the Oriental defence, was unlucky yet again when Oriental custodian, Prashanta Bemal, lunged to bring off a good save early in the second half. Almost immediately Dharmender Kharola replied with a relaxed right-footer that sailed past an onrushing Ashim Seel.

The portly but hard working Narender Rawat missed a chance to make it 3-1 for Oriental when his shot bounced off the crossbar.

Oriental messed up a winning scenario when they fouled an onrushing Naresh Kumar. He made no mistake with the spot-kick and pulled off a creditable draw.

Later, Central Secretariat defeated Central Industrial Security Force 1-0 in a Group C match after a goalless first half. Striker Ravinder Waldai scored in the 55th minute. While Central Sectt have six points from two matches, CISF have three points from as many matches.

In the morning session, Delhi Administration defeated Chefair 4-2 in Group C. Hari Krishan (3), and Jai Mohan scored for the winners while Om Prakash struck twice for Chefair.

In Group B, ESIC got a walkover from Delhi Vidyut Board.
