AHMEDABAD, May 17: The Anand district police have arrested four members of a gang accused of being involved in robberies, murders and rapes on the highways of Central Gujarat. On grilling these criminals, the police had got clues of five earlier incidents of robbery and murder also, Minister of State for Home Haren Pandya said in a statement on Saturday.The minister said the arrests showed that the action plan, prepared by the police department to check incidents of robbery and murder on the highways criss-crossing the state, had succeeded.
Anand district police chief said that Arif Ibrahim Vora and Yousuf Gulam Rasul, who were suspected of being involved in the robbery of Rs 1.5 lakh and the murder of a businessman on the Sevalia-Anand road last November, were nabbed, along with the Matador van they used during their robberies.
Another gang of Daffero community was nabbed from Vadodara-Anand highway during night patrolling, the Anand district police said.
On April 11, the police had succeeded in nabbing another gang with the help of local people when the gang entered a shop to loot.
Another suspected criminal was picked up near Vasad and after investigation, the chief of another gang, one Hazrat Idusha Diwan was arrested by the police, he said.
State police department has been instructed to implement this action plan to check such incidents all over the State.
