Experts voice their concern over pollution

BHARUCH, May 17: Pollution Control and Protection is of outmost importance in today's industrial environment, said columnist Kashyap Joshi on the occasion of National Environment Awareness Campaign, organised by Manvia Technology forum (MTF) and Santiqram Nirwan Mandal recently. A seminar on `Pollution Control and Safety' was also held on the occasion. Jayesh Patel, an environmentalist and member of Narmada Pradushan Nivaran Samiti, said that Ankleshwar was today considered to be one of the most polluting industrial estate and this was proving to be danger to human life. Despite repeated representations made to the authorities, GIDC, GPCB and industrialists, they failed to to carry out their responsibilities, he alleged, adding that Bharuch district would soon be in trouble.

Ashok Rathi of MTF elaborated on the impact of the pollutants on living organisms. He also said that if timely measures were not taken, the farmers would have to react by way of agitation.

Many members also expressed their views on having positive intentions about industries, which they considered was the backbone of the nation. On the occasion, it was also decided to organise such type of seminars on regular intervals to review the situation. Geologist Dr P P Patel, Badri Joshi, Udesinh Raj, Paragjibhai Patel also attended the seminar.
