China rejects US funding charges

BELGRADE: Yugoslav Prime Minister Radoje Kontic was today defeated in a confidence vote in the Federal Parliament in Belgrade. After a debate lasting several hours, a majority of deputies in both chambers voted against Kontic, the Beta news agency reported.
Myanmar sanctions
GENEVA: President Bill Clinton today ordered a one-year extension of US sanctions against Myanmar, citing restrictions imposed on the Democratic opposition in the southeast Asian nation.
Rwanda violence
KIGALI: Hutu rebels armed with guns and machetes attacked a school dormitory in northwestern Rwanda, killing 11 students, the Rwanda news agencyreported. Two other people were also killed in Nyamyumbai.
Uno dead
TOKYO: Former Japanese prime minister Sosuke Uno, whose 69-day administration was one of the shortest in Japanese history, died of lung cancer today, a hospital spokesman said. He was 75.
