6 die in road accident
Six persons were killed and nine injured as a hired jeep (GJ-20-A-30) in which they were travelling dashed against a tree near Nanizari village in Godhra district on Monday. A police spokesman said the accident occurred when the driver of the jeep lost control at the turning near the village and hit a tree resulting in the death of at least six persons, including a woman, on the spot. Among the nine injured were five children all of whom have been admitted district hospital. The ill-fated jeep was heading towards Devgadhbaria. All passengers were from a family of Babubhai Naik, about 40, a resident of Mojri village and were going to participate in a marriage function, the police said. The case is being investigated.

ACB nabs one
Vadodara unit of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) nabbed a social welfare officer from his Kaalol office on Monday evening. According to official information, social welfare publicity officer Dayabhai Rana was nabbed red-handed when he was taking a bribe of Rs 200 from a poor vegetable vendor. An ACB spokesman said that the complainant had applied for a Rs 1,000 financial support as per a government scheme and also been sanctioned the amount. But, Rana sought Rs 200 to release the aid, he said. The case is being further investigated.

Cheated
A youth swindled Rs 24,000 from a resident of Ujjain after promising to get him a job in Vadodara. Mukesh Motwani, resident of Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh), lodged a complaint with the Sayajigunj police that a youth took Rs 1,000 cash and other valuables including jewellery worth about Rs 23,000 promising him a job in a reputed private company at Vadodara. The youth vanished immediately after taking the money and valuables, he said. A case has been registered and is being investigated.

Moped lifted
A Luna moped (GJ-6-CC-2251) was reported to have been lifted from the Sayajigunj area, police said on Tuesday. A case has been registered and is is being investigated.
