Union Bank score convincing win

MUMBAI, May 22: Union Bank of India (UBI) drubbed Central Bank of India (CBI) 3-0 in a Gulf Lubricants Super Division WIFA football league match here at Cooperage today.

Vijay Kunder scored the first goal just six minutes before the breather as he found the roof of the net from a melee.

Shahid Iqbal scored the second with a solo in the 79th minute. Five minutes later, skipper Francis Periera scored third for his team. UB defence comprising Anil Tomar, Suresh Menon, Vijay Thapa exhibited a good understanding kept the opponent strikers at bay.

SNG rally to win: State champions Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana (SNG), Nagpur, survived a scare before winning their opening match in the sixth Savio Club Invitational Basketball tournament, sponsored by Killer Jeans, Colgate and Pepsi, at the Don Bosco High School court, Matunga, today.

Result: SNG, Nagpur 53 (Pankaj Deshmukh 18, Shrihari Garge 15) bt TMG 45 (Sagar Joshi 14, Clarence Menezes 14, Sheetal Raut 14) HT: 28-25.

DPZ enter final: DPZ defeatedPandit XI by 65 runs in a under-14 Indian Gymkhana cricket tournament played at the their own Indian Gymkhana ground.

Pandit XI won the toss and elected to field. Man-of-the-Match, Abhshiek Prabhu played a blazing knock of 71 in 49 balls to set a target of 220 for seven in 35 overs for the opponent. Pandits XI tumbled down to 155 in 33.4 overs. Even a quick 35 off 34 balls by Azhar Potia could not help his side. And DPZ won the match by 65 runs. DPZ will take on Achrekar XI in the final on May 24.
