Sports Mission's basketball exhibition matchesSports Mission, a voluntary group working among the children and women in red-light areas will be organising a four exhibition basketball matches in Mumbai from May 30 to June 2. The matches will be played between a group of Canadian university students and the Maharashtra State Basketball team. The event will also aim to make people aware of AIDS and educate them on moral and spiritual values, a press release stated here today.
Cricket umpires' meeting today
The Thane Chapter of the Association of Cricket Umpires (Mumbai) will have their third bi-monthly meeting on Saturday, May 23 at 6.30 p.m. at the Traffic Police hall, next to `Abhiman' Satish Pradhan (MP) Office, at the foot of Highway flyover, Teen Hathkamba, Thane (West).
The discussions will also be held on model rules of the Mumbai Cricket Association.
MDFA veteran's league
The Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) will conduct a veteran's league (over-40) forindustries and institutes only and not for private clubs. Indians return with 10 medals
Reshma Kotian won a gold and a bronze in the Kumite and Katas Championships held at Liverpool, Australia on April 25 and 26. Hemant won a gold in the kumite event with a 3-2 win over his Australian opponent. Other winners from Maharashtra: Swapna Gopi (silver), Maya Madanan (silver), Sridharan Ezhuthachan (bronze), Pawan Bhusari (bronze). The team bagged 10 medals.
Garden Tennis Academy tourney
The Videocon Open Junior Tennis tournament will be held at the Garden Tennis Academy under the auspices of the MSLTA. Scholarships worth Rs 25,000 and inaddition Vidocon electronic products will be presented to the winners, runners-up and semi-finalists. The last date for entries is May 27. Amit Rati Memorial badminton
The Rs 4-lakh prize-money Amit Rati Memorial badminton tournament will be conducted by the Badminton Lovers Trust and hosted by the Cricket Club of India from June 2 to 5.
