Mystery shrouds Belgian paedophile's death in Goa

Shiv Kumar
GOA, May 22: A Belgian accused of sexually abusing young boys in Goa, was found dead just weeks after he was arrested for indulging in unnatural sex with a young boy.

According to the Goa police, Yvone Rene Waller was arrested in March after he was caught having sex with an 11-year-old disabled boy by some British tourists. Subsequently, Waller was released on bail. On May 13, following a complaint by his landlords, police broke open the doors of his room only to find him dead.

``We found symptoms of poisoning. It seems to be a case of suicide, but an overdose of drugs cannot be ruled out,'' says Deputy Superintendent of Police I A Khatib. The room was locked from the inside and it was almost impossible for an intruder to get in, he said. A copy of the charge-sheet and some handwritten notes scribbled by Waller were found in his room. ``The notes clearly showed that Waller was worried getting ten years of imprisonment for indulging in paedophile activities. Ten years is a long time the notes said,''informed Khatib.

The police are still awaiting the results of the chemical analysis on Waller's viscera which was sent to Hyderabad for analysis. In his statement to the police after his arrest, Waller had admitted to being a habitual paedophile, who had indulged in child sex abuse on many occasions. This time he was caught having oral sex with a disabled boy.
