CHANDIGARH, May 22: The month-long community theatre workshop and play production conducted by Centre for Education and Voluntary Education concluded at Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36 today. Today's play "Kukar Da Gawacha Anda" was about the adventures of an egg, who runs away from home in protest against the worrying attitude of its' parents, the cock and the hen, who would not let it go anywhere for the fear that it would break. It was based on the children's hostel life and had characters like the school gate and the bell. Interestingly, the children were asked to give a suitable end to the play through the cards which were distributed to them.
The play was a joint effort of 34 hostlers of the school ranging from standard 5th to 9th. This theatre workshop was a part of CEVA's on going project to provide learning opportunity to young hostlers, who find their routine boring. According to Harleen Kohli, a member of CEVA, shy, uncommunicative children were often asked for taking lead in conducting the plays.
Similar workshops have also been conducted at Government High School, Sector 22-D, Government Primary School Sector 33 and Vivek High School, Sector 38.An exhibition showing creative works done by students was also put up in the school.
