NEW DELHI, May 22: Police say that O.P. Warshne, the retired Delhi administration officer whose body was found near the Coffee Home in R.K. Puram, probably fell or was thrown out of a moving vehicle.Warshne, 64, had injuries on his head and face which indicate a fall from a fast moving vehicle. Police recovered several visiting cards in his name falsely affiliating himself to a humanitarian organisation. Sources say that Warshne would go through the engagement columns of various newspapers and select places where a party or a function was being held. He would then gate-crash posing as the representative of a humanitarian organisation.
To commute Warshne used to hitch lifts from motorists. This strengthens the belief that he could have fallen out of a vehicle. ``It is possible that while at one of the parties he had too much to drink,'' said a district police officer.
Sources say a murder-angle, though not ruled out, is considered unlikely. In another case reported on May 13, police believe that a relative is responsible for the murder of a nine-year-old boy whose body was found with strangulation and stabbing wounds in Najafgarh.
Rakesh Kumar's body was found in wooded area near the Paprawat village. He had been reported missing the previous night. His mouth had been stuffed with mud. Rakesh Kumar is the son of a DVB employee, Azad Singh.
From the style of the killing, police initially subscribed to the theory that he had been killed by a tantrik. Later, however, they came round to the theory that he had been sodomised and then killed by a relative who had come to live with the family for a few days.
``There were strong inconsistencies in the man's statement,'' said DCP South West S.P. Rakash. ``Moreover, enquiries made in his village have revealed that he had some criminal cases pending against him. Therefore, it is most probable that he had taken the boy outside the village on the night of the murder on some pretext. He may have then tried to assault him. When the boy resisted, the relative would have stabbed and strangled him.''
