UTRECHT, May 24: Germany and Australia moved closer to semi-final berths from pool A as both posted their third straight victory at the women's World Cup hockey tournament, here on Sunday.Australia swept past the United States 6-1 with goals by Karen Smith (29th), Julie Towers (30th), Bianca Langham (32nd), Claire Mitchell-Taverner (36th), Alyson Annan (56th) and Nicole Mott (57th). For the US, Michelle Vizzuso (43rd) struck the lone goal.
Germany met unexpected resistance from China, but eventually came through 3-1 on two late penalty corner goals by Denise Klecker (65th and 68th). Earlier, the Germans had gone into the lead with a goal by Katrin Kauschke (16th) while China equalised in the 27th minute through Juan Li.
Monday's fixtures (WOMEN - IST): England vs Korea (4.05 p.m.), Argentina vs New Zealand (5.05 p.m.) and the Netherlands vs India (11.35 p.m.).
