Germany beaten

ASSOCIATED PRESS
BUCHAREST, May 24: Georgious Karagkounis' finished Pantelis Konstantinidis' spectacular solo run and Greece surprised Germany 1-0 yesterday, the opening day of European Under-21 Championship.

Netherlands edged Romania 2-1 in the day's other match.

It wasn't until twelve minutes into the second half when Konstantinidis dribbled past two German defenders, pushed the ball into the penalty area and touched it to Karagkounis, who easily got past the tall German goalkeeper.

The loss eliminated Germany from the title hunt and left them with a best finish of fifth.
