The Great Train "robbery": Miscreants beaten up

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, May 24: A gang of eight who tried to loot passengers of the Dehradun Express on Friday were in for a rude shock when angry passengers found the courage to bash them up. In the ensuing scuffle, three robbers were injured while one succumbed to his injuries later in the hospital.

The incident happened after the train pulled out of Vapi station, when the miscreants started terrorising passengers with sharp weapons, asking them to part with their valuables. They managed to force a passenger to give up valuables worth Rs 20,850.

But when they were trying to escape, some passengers tried to catch them. While four of them managed to escape, the rest were thrashed up by the passengers and handed over to the police.
