Bar Council chief calls for reforms
The Chairman of the Bar Council of India, Arun Mishra, has called for a number of legal reforms to be enacted. According to him, the Central government should enforce section 30, which provides for advocates to practice in all courts and tribunals. He has also called for the civil procedure code to be amended and the number of judges to be increased. Mishra announced that the Bar Council had introduced a new curriculum which was to be mandatorily adopted by all law colleges from the next academic session.

DTF condemns amendment proposal
The Democratic Teachers' Forum (DTF) has condemned the UGC for proposing amendments to the UGC Act. The DTF has stated that this would damage the autonomy of the university, further bureaucratise the administration and be disastrous for the future of higher education. According to the DTF, the proposed amendments run counter to the philosophy and substance of the UGC recommendations on pay scales.

Chief executive honoured
Dharam Pal Singh, chief executive (techno-commercial) at Haldia, has invented a unique integrated systems in commercial technology for identifying hidden wealth in business and industry, providing net savings of around Rs 25,000 crore per annum. The India International Friendship Society has honoured him with Vijay Shree Award and certificate of excellence.
