  Consensus on Pak policy: PM
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee has said India's policy towards Pakistan is based on national consensus and the country also wants "good relations" with China. He dismissed suggestions that nuclear tests were conducted due to domestic political compulsions.
  Four Cong MLAs quit over formation of MP districts
Four Congress MLAs have announced their decision to quit from the Madhya Pradesh Assembly in protest against their areas not being made districts along with the ten newly-formed districts. MLA Mahendra Bahadur Singh sent his resignation to the Chief Minister Digvijay Singh yesterday. Earlier, three other Congress MLAs had also resigned from the Assembly over the same issue.

RPI to "boycott" State by-elections
Republican Party of India (RPI) leader Prakash Ambedkar, yesterday announced that his party would "boycott" the forthcoming by-elections from Maharashtra, saying that the Congress with which it had allied earlier had closed its doors. Ambedkar further added that no decision had yet been taken on the party elections.
State Ministers' performance not up to the mark, says Naik
Optimistic about his promotion to Cabinet rank in the next expansion, senior BJP leader and Minister of State for Railways Ram Naik lamented that the performance of party organisation as well as ministers in Maharashtra was not "up to the mark". He, however, added that the party had identified the weak points and also initiated corrective measures.

Nothing less than a separate state: ABSU
Bodo tribals of Assam would not settle down for anything less than a separate state for them, All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) president Urkhaw Brahma announced here on Saturday. Brahmasaid that creation of a separate state for Bodo tribals was the only solution to bring an end to tension and under-development in the state.
AGP rebels promote Boro as the new CM
The rebels in the ruling Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) yesterday projected Education Minister and senior party leader Thaneswar Boro as their candidate to replace Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta. The Mahanta camp, however, dismissed any such possibility, stating that Thaneswar Boro had already issued written statements that he was behind the Chief Minister.
