According to the police, the incident took place after 8 pm when Sunita (not real name) was playing at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar municipal garden along Saki-Vihar Road last evening. Her 14-year-old brother was with her when she left home to go to the garden, the police said. Harinarayan Choudhary, 45, a mill worker and his wife Kunti got suspicious when their daughter did not return home. A complaint was lodged at Sakinaka police station. The girl was later found near the garden.

A medical examination revealed that she was raped.
