Spikers' team for Colombo

CHENNAI: The Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) today announced a 12-member women's team to represent India in the Asian Central Zone Women's championship to be held at Colombo from June 14 to 21 and the Princess Cup International tournament to be held at Yala in Thailand from June 24 to 30.

Team: Vaishali Phadtare, Salomi Ramu, Sangeetha Karwasra, Hemalatha Ursal, Mini Elizabeith, Nagavardhini (all Railways), Mercy Antony, Anu Jacob (both Kerala), Radhika (Andhra Pradesh), Mithu Roy (West Bengal), Mandeep Kaur (Punjab) and Geetha Raju (Rajasthan). Stand byes: M Suneetha, Shanty Joseph (both Railways), Srilatha (Andhra Pradesh) and Sripriya (Tamil Nadu).

Mahajan peeved

NEW DELHI: Inder Mohan Mahajan, former president of the Indian Hockey Federation, today castigated the team management and federation secretary-general K Jothikumaran for ``messing up a fine chance to get redressel of the injustice done by Pakistan umpire Irfan Zaidi in the World Cup matchagainst South Korea yesterday.

``I am surprised to see the statements made by Jotikumaran and chief coach Vasudevan Baskaran after the fiasco which ended in a winning goal for the Koreans in the last few seconds of the match,'' Mahajan said.

Thadani wins

PUNE: Thadani's team from Pune, represented by Sheila Thadani, Pramila Shivdasani, Arvind Vaidya and C P Deshpande, lifted the Rama Murthy Trophy having won the mixed team of four duplicate event at Pune Club here last night.

Thadani, which topped the qualifying league, won the final having a tally of 50 VP in three matches played in the final league among four teams.

HCA election

HYDERABAD: National selector Shivlal Yadav, former Test cricketer, coach of Hyderabad Ranji team M L Jaisimha and former India off-spinner Arshad Ayub are the few important cricketers in the fray for the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) elections scheduled to be held here on May 31.
