Argentina first team in semis

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
UTRECHT, May 25: Argentina became the first team to enter the semi-finals in the women's World Cup hockey tournament when they scored their fourth straight win in Pool B with a 2-1 verdict against New Zealand, here on Monday. With 12 points in their kitty, Argentina need to play the Netherlands in their final league game, the result of which will be inconsequential for Argentina.

After Mandy Smith converted a penalty stroke to give New Zealand a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute, Argentina took a long time to stage their comeback which was marked by two penalty corner goals by Sofia Agnes Mackenzie (48th) and Maria Cecilia Rognoni (65th).

Later, Korea recorded a 3-2 win against England, also in Pool B, for their second success in four outings. The Koreans, who seem to have their best days behind them, struggled to no end against England who forged into the lead past the seventh minute when Purdy Miller found the mark from open play.Tuesday's fixtures (WOMEN - IST): Scotland vs China (4.05 p.m.), USA vs SouthAfrica (5.05 p.m.), Germany vs Australia (6.35 p.m.).
