SURAT, May 25: Three youths, armed with sharp edged weapons stabbed a diamond merchant when he was entering his diamond workshop in the city on Monday morning, before escaping with diamonds worth Rs 1.25 lakhs.Dayaljibhai Zaverbhai Patel, resident of Khan Saheb Dela at Rughnathpura near Lal Darwaja lodged a complaint with the Mahidharpura police that while he was climbing up the stairs of his diamond workshop at Jalaram Ashish building at Motala Sheri in Rughnathpura around 7:45 am two persons standing near the staircase attempted to snatch away a bag of diamonds from his hand.
When Patel resisted their move, another person arrived in and all three stabbed Dayalji bhai in the back, stomach and right hand with knives before snatching away the bag.
Patel further told the police that he attempted to pursue them but they escaped on a Hero Honda motorcycle. The complainant said they culprits were in the age group of 25 and 30, dark complexioned and wore coloured clothes. The bag snatched away from Patel contained polished and rough diamonds worth Rs 1,25,000.
No one was arrested in this connection. A case has been registered under sections 394, 397 and 114 of the IPC and section 135 of the BPA. PSI H T Borase of Mahidharpura police station is investigating. This is the third armed loot of diamond merchants in the city during the past three weeks.
