Eight people lost their lives when a truck collided with an auto-rickshaw near Chikli in Navsari district, while four people were killed on the spot when a truck and a luxury bus collided head-on the national highway near Chikli.

All eight passengers of the autorickshaw, including the driver, were killed when a truck (GQO 7346) rammed into the rickshaw (GQO 6898) on the turning of Kantoli bridge, six km off Vapi. The accident, the district police said took place around 6 pm on Sunday. The rickshaw was plying from Udwada to Vapi while the truck was going towards Mumbai.

In the other accident near Chikli, an Ahmedabad-Mumbai luxury minibus (MMO 280) rammed into a truck (GJ1X 6355) while the luxury bus attempted to overtake the truck on the border of Samroli village near Chikli in Navsari district on Sunday. The bus skidded off the road killing four occupants of the bus. Nine people were injured, four of them seriously.

In the truck-auto mishap near the Kantoli bridge at Vapi, Mohanbhai Patel (55), his daughter-in-law Dakshaben Patel (28) died on the spot while Mahesh Patel, Mohanbhai's son (30), and Sagar (5), his grandson, were seriously injured.

Lavjibhai Patel, Mahesh Mehta, Dhansukh Revadia and three other unidentified persons died on the spot.
