CHANDIGARH, May 25: As many as 600 students of the Nature Club of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 46, took out a rally today on the theme of ``Pollution, Prevention and Control'', under the aegis of National Environment Awareness Campaign.Students carrying banners and placards with thought-provoking messages marched through the main streets and roads of Sector 46 to highlight the fact that environment preservation is everybody's duty. The slogans included -- ``Plant Native Trees'', ``Chandigarh Roads Need Shade''.
President of Environment Society of India (ESI), S. K. Sharma, who flagged off the rally, said that a scheme was being formulated to ensure that Saturday is observed as the school environment and health day in all schools of Chandigarh, Panchkula, SAS Nagar and Parwanoo.
The march was organised by the school as part of its week-long environment and health promotion programme. The school also organised slogan-writing contests, an exhibition of paintings and utility items made out of waste products.
Principal R. S. Goraya talked about the activities of the Nature Club and announced that a herbal garden would be set up in the school soon.
Two rows of native trees shall be planted along the boundary wall of the school.
Later, Sharma gave away prizes to the students. The students who prizes in the slogan-writing contest are Manijot, Deepinder Singh, Neha, Sandeep, Maninder Kaur and Adish Kumar.
