Vietnam plane crashed due to pilot error: Report
ASSOCIATED PRESS
PHNOM PENH, May 26: Pilot error caused the crash of a Vietnam airlines flight that killed 64 people eight months ago, a report released today by Cambodian authorities said. Only two young children survived the September three crash of the Russian-built, twin-engine Tupolev 134, arriving in rainy weather from Ho Chi Minh city to Phnom Penh. The investigation by the state secretariat of civil aviation reported that the pilot continued his landing descent from 2,000 m in altitude to just 30 m, even though the runway was not in sight. ``Pham Van Tieu, 59, ignored pleas by his first officer and flight engineer to turn back'' it said.Copyright © 1998 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
