Yadav's brace derails Central Railway

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
May 26: Substitute Abhisek Yadav's brace in the second-half helped Rashtriya Chemicals and Factory (RCF) to pull off a surprise 2-1 win over Central Railway (CR) in a Gulf Lubricants Super Division WIFA League match at the Cooperage, today.

Yadav came as a substitute in the 30th minute of the first-half when RCF were trailing by a goal. In the 63th minute, fellow striker Zahid Raza snatched a ball from Central Railway defender Narendran. Raza carried the ball till the touchline and sent a low cross. An Onrushing Yadav tapped the ball to the right of Ragu Khanolkar, the Central Railway custodian who was guilty of not moving up from his guard to reduce the angle.

The second goal by Yadav was a brilliant solo effort in the 78th minute. He received a forward pass from substitute Pradeep Tirkey and got the better of Venkat Rao with his long strides. Yadav thumped the ball into the goal on his second attempt as goalkeeper Khanolkar made a half-hearted attempt to save the first.

It seemed that the Railwaycoach C Vaz's decision to substitute Venkat Rao for medio Hamid Ansari proved fatal. For, in the very next minute, Yadav, the Don Bosco Academy trainee, raced past Rao, who had taken up left-stopper's position to net the match-winner.

Earlier, the railmen had forged ahead in the 25th minute. Junior International striker Arshad Ansari headed home a medio Arif Ansari's curling free-kick. Arshad's flick found the far post and gave absolutely no chance to goalkeeper Subrato Dasgupta who hesitated to advance.

After playing a defensive game in the first-half, RCF were an inspired side in the second. Former International Bhaskar Maity, the RCF coach, brought in seasoned medio Prosanjit Barua for Richard Noronha. The change saw variation in attacks as Barua used the width of the field by feeding both wingers and executing forward passes.

The railmen were without the services of regulars, striker Asif Jamal and left-stopper Amir Lotikar, both of whom it was learnt were nursing injuries.
