Govt rejects SMC plea on contractor
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, May 26: The state government has rejected a resolution moved by the standing committee of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) blacklisting a contractor who had been given work order of Rs 10 crore to supply pipes to the corporation, during former commissioner S R Rao's tenure. However, the work order was delayed for some time during which the validity period expired, following which the contractor demanded higher prices claiming that prices had escalated. But the SMC refused to oblige saying the demand was unfair and the commissioner blacklisted the contractor. His action was endorsed by the standing committee, who decided to blacklist the contractor and the resolution was forwarded to the state government for approval. One of the implications of the state government decision to reject the resolution was that the contractor could again file quotation whenever SMC invites one, a senior councillor told Express Newsline.
