Foundation stone for panchayat building laid

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, May 26: The foundation stone of a new gram panchayat building in Ichhapore village near Hazira on the outskirts of the city was laid on Sunday. The Rs 6 lakh project is being financed by Reliance Industries.

Textiles Minister Kashiram Rana, Olpad MLA Dhansukhbhai Patel and Senior Vice-President of RIL Hemantbhai Desai were present for the function held in Ichhapore village.

Speaking at the function, the Union Textile Minister said that it was encouraging that big industrial houses had set up units in the Hazira belt. ``These have been making huge profits as the place is strategically located, but they must contribute their bit for the development of the region,'' he said. Rana added that it was the social and moral responsibility of the industries located in Hazira to ensure the well-being of the residents of the area. He expressed gratitude to Reliance Industries for coming forward in the construction of the bhawan.

The Minister expressed hope that the proposed panchayat premises be constructed in such a way so as to ensure all facilities. He said that even if the estimated cost of the project shoots a little higher, the company must go ahead and construct the building. ``The Panchayat building should be a model for all those built henceforth,'' he stated. The minister appealed officials to aid villages other than Ichhapore, who were in equal need of development.

Olpad MLA Dhansukh Patel, RIL officials, Zilla Panchayat President Raman Jani, District Collector R M Shah and others spoke on the occasion.
