VADODARA, May 26: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation plans to build 1,500 low cost houses for the urban poor with HUDCO loan.Deputy Municipal Commissioner (General) I B Peerzada told Express Newsline that poor persons who had encroached the town planning roads and town planning plots would be given the houses at alternative sites.
The houses will be built in 12 different sites of the city on areas reserved for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and civic plots. The project will cost Rs 6 crore and 1,500 families will get accommodations under this project.
The matter will be taken up for discussion in a meeting convened by the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) in Gandhinagar on Wednesday.Representatives of municipal corporations are likely to present estimates for the loans they require from the HUDCO.
Only recently, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation had procured Rs 1.34 crore under the National Slum Development Programme (NSDP) to provide civic amenities and construct toilets in slums located in different parts of the city.
SANITATION PANEL
: The VMC on Tuesday appointed a 12-member committee to supervise sanitation work, cleaning of storm water drains, drainage lines and other health related works carried out by the ward offices.
The 12 members are: The Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Administration) - chairman, the Deputy Municipal Commissioner (General), the City Engineer, the Additional City Engineer, the Assistant Municipal Commissioner (Revenue), the Chief Fire Officer, one each from the Society for Clean Environment (SOCLEEN), and Exnora, two representatives of the Beautiful Baroda Council (BBC), representative of the Baroda Citizens Council (BCC) and the Labour Welfare Officer (member-secretary).
The committee members will review the works carried out in wards and listen to the complaints related to sanitation. The term of the committee is one year.
CLEANLINESS FORTNIGHT
: THE civic body will launch a fortnight long cleanliness drive as part of the State-wide programme to keep the cities and villages clean.
ADDITIONAL CHARGES
: In-charge additional city engineer B S Trapasia and executive engineer (Roads) M M Patel have been given additional charges related to engineering and technical works in the ward offices to improve the administration.
