Chain hunger strike on
Round-the-clock hunger strike, being undertaken by protesting members of Sector 22, Sonia Gandhi Phari Market Association, was today converted into a chain hunger strike following the intervention of District Congress Committee's president Pawan Kumar Sharma. SBI staff donate Rs 6,406 to PM relief fund n A DAY's salary has been contributed to the Prime Minister's relief fund by Sector 31, State Bank of India's staff, following imposition of financial sanctions by USA after India conducted the nuclear blasts. According to a press release, a draft of Rs 6,406 has been handed over to the UT deputy commissioner.
Reimbursement demanded
Members of Senior Citizens and Retired Persons Association today urged the Punjab government to implement Fourth Pay Commission recommendations regarding reimbursement of medical expenses. Convenor D. D. Sindhi, also sought issuance of directions to the head of the departments regarding clearance of pending bills.
Photo exhibition on Harappan sites
A photo exhibition on ``50 Years of Excavation of Harappan Sites in India'' and ``Buddhist Sites in India'' is being organised by the Chandigarh Circle of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) from May 27 to June 2 at the Punjab Kala Parishad, Sector 16.
Rescheduling of exams sought
Students have demanded the rescheduling of the entrance examination as the dates of the common entrance test conducted by the Government of Karnataka are clashing with the dates of tests to be conducted by Bharti Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune and the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) test being conducted by Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar. In a representation, students have requested the concerned authorities to take note of the problem.
Man injured
An S. A. S. Nagar resident, K. S. Sidhu, was injured when his Maruti car (PB-65-1050) collided with a Himachal Roadways bus near the Sector 37-38 chowk today. Bus driver Prema Ram has been arrested and the vehicle (HP-24-4557) impounded. The police have registered a case.
Revision of pay scales welcomed
A deputation of Super Bazar Workers Union led by general secretary of UT Subordinate Federation P. S. Lamba met MC commissioner S. K. Gathwal here today. The team, while congratulating him for ensuring the implementation of revised scales, apprised him of the problems being faced by them.
Jain praises work of Lions Club
