Chandan, Sushil, Ravinder strikefor Central Sectt

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, May 26: In the last and most sedate quarter-final, Central Secretariat did exactly as they wished and cut through the Reserve Bank of India attack in their emphatic 3-0 win in the Oriental Bank sponsored DSA Institutional league at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Tuesday.

With Chandan Singh, Dalip Bhandari, and Ravinder Waldia doing an inspired and consistent forward line job, the lanky Sushil Chandra and Himmat Singh chipping in usefully, there was that bit of animation in a match that was no more than a formality.

In that scenario, all three goals came without much fuss. In any case, Chandan Singh struck the first blow in the fifth minute even as the RBI defence, in a momentary lapse, left the field wide open. Moments later, Ravinder's right footer off an intelligent Himmat Singh cross just scraped past the sidebar. Coming into the second half with a 1-0 lead, ChandanSingh, Dalip Bhandari and Sushil Chandra, jelling even better, moved in relentlessly but could not convert.

Meanwhile, an increasingly complacent RBI defence and their equally despondent custodian set the stage for a fine header by Sushil, who plays for Youngmen Club, off a longish cross from the right flank by Dalip Bhandari (Indian National Club).

To add to RBI's worries on a particularly sultry evening, Chandan gave them another scare when his long ranger kissed the left goalpost. And, finally, RBI managed to get one good shy at the goal through Arup Nandi but it just wasn't his day. In the dying minutes, Ravinder Walia sealed the issue for C. Sectt with a neat one past an off-colour RBI goalkeeper. The winners now take on FCI (North Zone) while Wednesday's match between Northern Railway and ESIC promises to be a good one.
