	Nuke-chill freezes India-US communication channel The memorial day weekend heralds the official onset of summer in the United States, but winter has descended on Indo-US ties following the nuclear tests last fortnight. The Line of communication between the two sides has been frozen and a perceptible chill has enveloped the sole channel which reopened last week -- between Indian ambassador Naresh Chandra and Under Secretary of State Thomas Pickering.		Missiles will carry nuclear warheads, says George Defence Minister George Fernandes said yesterday that missiles used by the Indian armed forces would now be equipped with nuclear warheads and the weaponisation process would not be affected by the country's unilateral moratorium on nuclear tests. He added that scientists were of the view that that the tests had given them "sufficient material for weaponisation."
	TN tables anti-terrorism bill The much-awaited bill "to completely neutralise religious extremists and root out terrorists" from Tamil Nadu, as promised by the State Government, was introduced in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Tuesday. The Bill envisages the setting up of a designated court with the presiding officer in the rank of additional sessions judge/sessions judge.		Govt to present status paper on railways The Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition government at the Centre will present a status paper on the railways on Wednesday, according to Union Railway Minister Nitish Kumar. Kumar said that the paper would mainly deal with challenges and expectations before the railways. He added that it will be discussed in Parliament and opinions from experts would also be sought.

Habibie, Army ask kin to quit official posts
The government of Indonesia's new president B J Habibie yesterday freed two prominent political prisoners in a gesture of national reconciliation. Justice Minister Muladi said the release of other political prisoners was under consideration, saying the most likely candidates were those jailed for protesting human rights violations.

Police swoop down on suspects ahead of Cup
Police swooped on suspected Muslim fundamentalist guerrillas in five European countries yesterday in a coordinated exercise two weeks before the start of the World Cup Soccer Championships in France. Police officials in Paris, where the operation was being coordinated, said the raids in Belgium, Germany, France, Italy and Switzerland were intended to head off possible terrorist attacks during the month-long competition unrolling in 10 French cities from June 10.
