But the victory anything but guaranteed Pakistani a ticket to semi-finals as they still need to beat Australia on Thursday which certainly is a tall order.

India women go down fighting
Gritty India went down fighting 2-4 against Asian Champions South Korea to finish without a point in their Pool `B' of the 9th women's World Cup hockey tournament yesterday. The Korean scorers were Woo Hyun Jung (2) Lee Eun Young and Choi Kwan Sook. For India, Pritam Thakran scored both the goals. The Asian champions, who led 2-0 at half-time, finished third in the pool with nine points from five outings, having won three matches.

Versatile Venus powers into third round
Powered by huge serves and delicate drop shots, Venus Williams rolled into the third round of the French Open tennis championships, routing Ai Sugiyama of Japan 6-0, 6-2. It only took one more game for Williams' potential quarter-final opponent, top-seeded Martina Hingis, to advance. Hingis easily beat German Meike Babel, 6-1, 6-2.
