BUENOS AIRES, May 28: A lawyer who fears former soccer star Diego Maradona may flee Argentina during the World Cup tournament to escape the prison in a shootout case has called for a court decision in the case within two weeks.``Maradona has said himself several times that he wants to live abroad and that's what we are afraid of,'' said Marcelo Bermoin, the lawyer acting for four journalists allegedly shot by the former soccer star outside his home four years ago.
Bermoin called on a Buenos Aires Province Court yesterday to rule on the case before June 10, when the World Cup kicks off in France and Argentina's 1986 world champion captain is due to travel as a television commentator.
A judge is due to decide later this week whether to renew Maradona's permission to temporarily leave the country while the case continues.
