UTRECHT, May 28: The Netherlands, in spite of a 2-2 draw with Argentina on Wednesday night, finished at the top of Pool B in the women's World Cup hockey tournament here. In the semi-finals, the Dutch take on Germany, who finished second in the other pool, while Argentina take on Australia. The Dutch, having already qualified for the semis, played it easy against Argentina, who, however, were in no charitable mood. But the Dutch girls held firm and, in the ultimate analysis, a draw was the correct index of the game.
The Dutch climbed to a 2-0 lead on goals by Fleur van de Keift and Carole Thate, but Argentina came back with replies from Vamina Paula Oneto and Karina Paula Masotta.
Friday's fixtures (classification - IST): South Africa vs New Zealand (4.05 p.m.); Scotland vs India (5.05 p.m.); USA vs Korea (6.35 p.m.); China vs England (7.35 p.m.). Semi-finals: Australia vs Argentina (9.05 p.m.) and Germany vs the Netherlands (11.35 p.m.).
