MUMBAI, May 29: The State Government has appointed a high-level Central Co-ordination Committee, with two other committees, for an efficient execution of the forthcoming entrance examination for admissions to the MBBS and BDS courses.The Committee, headed by Medical Education secretary T C Benjamin, will co-ordinate with various government departments involved in conducting the entrance examination.
The director, Directorate of Medical Education and Research, will be the competent authority for conducting the examination. Other members of the Committee will be School Education secretary, Director General, Information and Public Relations Directorate, deputy secretaries of Finance, Revenue and Medical Education departments. This committee will control and supervise the entire work for the entrance examination.
Under this committee, there will be another executive committee headed by director, Directorate of Medical Education and Research, to prepare rules for admissions to MBBS and BDS courses, inviteapplications for the examination and verify the same, arrange examination centres, dispatch admit cards, prepare final merit list, conducting interviews and selection of candidates. Other members on the panel will be joint director (dental), Medical Education, Dean, B J Medical College, Pune, assistant professor, Pharmaceutical, Grant Medical College, Mumbai, a representative of Director General of Police, Chief Administrative Officer and Joint Director of Medical Education and Research Directorate.
The third committee to be set up at the district-level will be headed by the district Collector. The other members who would constitute the committee are district Superintendent of Police, district education officer (higher secondary) and resident Deputy Collector. A representative of the dean of government medical college will be member-secretary of this committee. This committee will be responsible for selection of examination centres, appointment of controllers, supervisors and coordinators for theexamination.
Last week, Health Minister Dr Daulatrao Aher had announced that the tests would be conducted within a month of declaration of the Higher Secondary Certificate examination. Meanwhile, Minister of state for education, Anil Deshmukh yesterday announced that the HSC results were expected in first week of June. The SC had recently rejected the State plea to grant a year's time to make preparations for the examination.
