HYDERABAD, May 29: Farmers in Andhra Pradesh, represented by the `Rytanga Atmahatyala Nivarana Aikya Porata Vedika', will organise a `chalo Parliament' rally on June 4 to protest against the "indifferent" attitude of the State and Central Governments towards their problems.Addressing a press conference here today, Vedika leaders Gade Diwakar, Raja Reddy and M Bhaskar Reddy said that they will take out a rally from Delhi railway station to Jantar Mantar to highlight their problems.
Earlier, they had organised conventions in 19 out of the 23 districts in Andhra Pradesh and also submitted several memorandums in this regard to the Chief Minister, the State and Union Agriculture Ministers and the Prime Minster. But so far, nothing has been done to mitigate their difficulties, say the organisation members.
"Instead of coming to the rescue of poor farmers, the governments have initiated power reforms to further burden the ryots," they said. They appealed to the leaders of all political parties to take part inthe rally and the dharna.
Meanwhile, 14 Congress MPs from Andhra Pradesh today alleged that the law and order situation in the Telugu Desam-ruled state had deteriorated and urged Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to depute a high-level official team for an on-the-spot study of the situation.
"We plead for your effective intervention in the matter and request you to kindly depute a high-level official team from the Centre to study the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Andhra Pradesh and report back to you for proper action," they said in a joint memorandum to Vajpayee.
The MPs, including P Shiv Shanker and P Upendra, said they were constrained over the "steep deterioration in the law-and-order situation" in the state, resulting in "large-scale violence, kidnappings, murders, rapes, police atrocities and harassment of political workers."
The memorandum alleged that in the recent Lok Sabha elections, the ruling Telugu Desam blatantly made use of the police force to rig the polls in severalplaces and intimidate voters.
"We fear that the same thing might be repeated in the four Assembly by-elections scheduled for June 3. Prior to and after the Lok Sabha elections, a large number of false cases were instituted against Congress workers in several districts and harassment of political activists by adversaries is going on unabated," it alleged.
