MUMBAI, May 31: Sutarwar, Sahar, just about defeated Britacel 2-1 after leading 1-0 in the pre-quarter-finals of the MDFA-conducted Air-India Trophy football tournament, sponsored by Air-India, at the St Xavier's ground, Parel, today.Sutarwar dominated the proceedings with good combination and ball control and they scored in the sixth minute. A pass by Apparao Chiman to Subhash Adaikar saw the latter get the better of Britacel 'keeper Wilson D'Souza.
Sutarwar once again found their bearings and after being at the receiving end for most part of the game, scored their second goal in the 42nd minute. It was Apparao Chiman who set up the goal. His cross from the right was neatly connected by Lloyd D'Souza, giving no chance whatsoever to Britacel goalkeeper Wilson D'Souza.
Britacel pulled a goal back in the 52nd minute following a free-kick. Jonathan Fernandes, who took the kick, saw his attempt rebound back after striking the defenders. Jonathan received the ball back and made no mistake with his secondattempt.
There will be no matches at this venue on Monday.
Tipu Sultan held
Mahindra Tractors held favourites Tipu Sultan to a goalless draw in the Gulf Lubricants WIFA Senior Division League at the Cooperage ground, today.
