Naushad deplores the influence of Western music

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
MUMBAI, May 31: Renowned music director Naushad Ali has said the popularity of Indian classical music among the youths was less due to the influence of Western music though it was winning hearts in the West.

``Today's youths' veins are filled with bad blood,'' Naushad said while releasing an album of prodigy sitarist Irshad Khan at a function on Saturday. The Padmabhushan award winner said, at a recent meeting with the officials of Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry, he had discussed the matter and urged them to do something to help Indian music. Narrating an incident during his visit to a foreign country, Naushad said, `` was so impressed by the performance of a Western sitarist that after the programme, I asked him what prompted him to learn Indian classical music."
