Trinamool Cong not to budge from `suspending' support stand
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
CALCUTTA, May 31: Trinamool Congress today refused to budge from its earlier decision of ``suspending'' support to the Centre and boycotting the Lok Sabha session. The party would formally demand the imposition of President's rule in West Bengal in view of the ``sharp deterioration'' of law and order, party spokesman Sudip Bandopadhyay said, after the meeting of the Trinamool MPs and leaders here.He said that during the meeting it was decided that the party would stick to its decisions. Trinamool Congress' unconditional support was not reciprocated by the BJP-led government, despite ``massive violence'' before and after the panchayat polls. Claiming that 52 activists were killed in election violence while thousands were driven out of their homes, Bandopadhyay said that the list of victims would be sent to Union Home Minister L K Advani. Describing the violence as ``unprecedented'', he said that teams led by MPs would visit districts where party workers were victims of violence. Despite repeatedcomplaints by the party, the Centre did not pay heed to it, he said. Bandopadhyay said that the rail budget which ignored proposals submitted by Mamata Banerjee in her `Bengal package' was criticised in the meeting.
