Tendulkar terminates Kenya's dream
The prodigious Sachin Tendulkar gave ample proof of his class with an unbeaten century as India lifted the Coca Cola Cup with an emphatic nine-wicket victory against Kenya at the flood-lit Eden Gardens in Calcutta yesterday. Chasing 197 for victory, India achieved the target in just 35 overs, with Tendulkar making an unbeaten 100.

Hingis smashes into quarters
World number one Martina Hingis remained in the hunt for the only Grand Slam title eluding her, while Thomas Muster is still on course for a second French Open title after 1995. Hingis breezed through her fourth round duel of former Roland Garros junior champions with Israel's Anna Smashnova in 63 minutes, 6-1, 6-2. Hingis now faces powerful American Venus Williams, a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Henrieta Nagyova of Slovakia.

Australian women retain title
Australia showed character and fortitude to retain the women's World Cup hockey title after a hard-fought 3-2 win over the Netherlands in the final at the overflowing Galgenwaard Stadium in Utrecht on Sunday. Earlier, Germany snatched a 3-2 win over Argentina to push the South American champions to fourth place.
