Chinese rule the roost at World Gymnastics

TOKYO, June 1: China, led by Li Xiaopeng's two golds, won the most medals at the two-day World Cup gymnastics finals held over the weekend, Kyodo News reported.

Li, 16, claimed his second gold medal in men's parallel bars, finishing in a three-way tie for first on Sunday with China's Zhang Jinjing and Kazakhstan's Alexei Dimitrienko, Kyodo reported.

Li also won the floor exercise gold on Saturday, the first day of the event held at Sun Dome Fukui in the western city of Sabae.

Ivan Ivankov of Belarus won the gold medal on the horizontal bar, while Olympic champion Alexei Nemov won the gold in men's vault.

Ivankov also won the silver medal in floor exercise.

In women's competition, China took the top two spots in the balance beam as Liu Xuan finished ahead of Kui Yuanyuan.

Simona Amanar of Romania beat world champion Gina Gogean, also of Romania, to take the gold in floor exercise.

Hosts Japan managed two bronze medals, in floor exercise and rings.
