ABS worker held for murder

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, June 1: Ganesh Madhukar Kotwal, a 20-year-old history-sheeter from Gavane Vasti in Bhosari area and a worker of Akhil Bharatiya Sena (ABS), a socio-political outfit launched by Mumbai's underworld don Arun Gawli, was yesterday arrested by Crime branch sleuths on charges of murdering an autorickshaw driver.

The body of rickshaw driver Pravin Pramod Jadhav was found lying off Pune-Nashik highway on April 8. His autorickshaw was also found parked in the same area.

Acting on a tip off, a crime branch team laid a trap at Gavane Vasti and arrested Kotwal. During the course of interrogation, Kotwal admitted that he murdered Jadhav, inspector Patil said.

Rickshaw driver Balu Tapkir had let out a contract of Rs 85,000 on Jadhav's life over previous enmity, he said. Kotwal was paid an amount of Rs 5,000 as advance, Inspector Patil added. According to police records, Kotwal has been a suspect in two cases of assault reported from Bhosari area about three years back.
