Bharti Vidyapeeth arch not illegal

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, June 1: Pune Municipal Commissioner Rajiv Agarwal today clarified that the imposing arch erected by Bharti Vidyapeeth authorities at the busy Pune-Satara highway end of the 80-feet wide development plan (DP) road was not unauthorised.

This was after the Vidyapeeth's joint secretary Shivajirao Deshmukh recently met Agarwal and produced a construction plan sanctioned by the district collectorate prior to the area falling in Dhankawadi being included into the municipal limits last year.

It may be recalled here that Agarwal had stated in response to a query from elected representatives during a recent general body meeting that the Vidyapeeth authorities had not sought permission from the municipal administration for constructing the arch.

However, Kadam has clarified to the civic chief that the permission to construct the arch was granted by the district collectorate in January 1989.
