Vivian, Lalit in quarters

NEW DELHI, June 3: After a shock first round win against top seeded Ashutosh Singh, Vivian Chhetri cruised into the boys-18 quarter-finals without much fuss in the 13th Satyawati summer circuit tennis tournament at the Modern School courts here on Wednesday. He took out Vipin Sirpaul 6-4, 6-1.

Meanwhile, cousins Lalit Mohan Singh and Shivnandan Singh too made it to the last eight with straight set wins while fourth seeded Bhupesh Pandey, in the last match of the day, squeaked past Anuj Gupta 7-5, 6-7(3), 6-2.

Gurmehar Singh, despite lukewarm tennis, had an easy outing against Sandeep Chaudhary in the late afternoon.

In boys under-14 action, thrid seeded Arjun Uppal, Wrick Ganguly and Devannad Jha took the easy route into the quarters with only Vishal Sachdeva running into problems against Sameer Jain before coming through 8-6.

Vivian's sister Vishika made the semi-finals of the girls under-18 taking out Shilpi Chauhan 6-2, 6-2. Of the semi-finalists, Itishree Badu had a rough time, coming back after a first set loss to pack off Neha Phalper 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. However, Neha made the girls under-14 semis taking out Shilpi Goel 8-0. Itishree's sister Utkalika and Poornima Narayanan also made the girls u-18 semis. Yuvika Sharma pulled off a tie-break win against Anjali Kant for a semis berth in the under-14 alongwith Aanchal Sharma and Sonali Kapoor.
