MTNL employee held for graft
The Anti-Corruption Branch arrested a telephone office assistant from the Shalimar Bagh office of the MTNL general manager (North) Tuesday. Dharampal Verma was reportedly arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000. The complainant was a telephone booth owner Sunil Kumar.

His telephone connection had been cut off by the MTNL because the cheque he had paid bounced. The connection was however not restored on payment of penalty and the complainant was asked to deposit Rs 10,000 before he got his connection back. The deal was settled at Rs 2,000 in the present of officers of the Anti-Corruption Branch.

Pirated tapes racket busted n THE northwest district special staff busted a racket of pirated video CD's with the arrest of the owner of a shop, Star Music Palace, Ajay Kumar and recovered 792 video CD's worth Rs 3.2 lakh.A case under Copyright Act has been registered at the Ashok Vihar police station.

10,000 pouches of liquor seized
Three persons involved in illegal smuggling of country-made liquor have been arrested and 10,000 pouches worth more than Rs 1 lakh have been recovered. 50 bags containing 200 pouches were recovered from the truck which was carrying the smuggled liquor from Uttar Pradesh to various parts of Delhi. Pradeep Kumar, Jasbir and Rahtas Singh have been arrested in this connection and the vehicle has been seized. A case under the Excise Act has been registered at the Rohini police station.

Woman held for chain snatching
Najafgarh police have arrested a 45-year-old woman from Khanpur village for snatching a gold chain from a 22-year-old man in Prem Nagar market last evening. Police have recovered the gold chain from Ombai.

Liquor seized
Dabri police have arrested a 55-year-old woman from Sagarpur and recovered 4,600 pouches of country-made liquor and 7,200 quarters of IMFL from her possession. Dabri police have registered a case against the accused Shakuntala.

Body found
A man believed to be around 30 years old reportedly set himself afire in his Badarpur house on Tuesday night. His body has which was recovered by the police has not been identified as yet.
