Army Chief in Shimla

SHIMLA, June 3: Chief of Army Staff General V.P.Malik arrived here today along with his wife Ranjana Malik on a three-day visit. He is likely to visit some forward areas tomorrow.

Gen Malik was received by Lt.Gen. Vijay Oberoi,and other senior officers of the Army Training Command.General Malik met Governor V. S. Rama Devi this afternoon. He will also call on Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal tomorrow.

A band concert was organised in his honour , the brass band of the Mahar Regiment enthralled the audience with martial and other tunes.. Later in the evening, General and Mrs Malik interacted with the officers stationed in Shimla and their wives, as also with a cross-section of civilian dignitaries of Shimla.

Ranjana Malik separately visited the Summer Hill Family Welfare Complex and Centre, where she was briefed on Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) activities in the station. She later visited the military hospital where she went around each ward and met all the patients.
