Stay on telecast of Lal Badshah songs
Express News Service
MUMBAI, June 5: For those who enjoyed watching snatches of Lal Badshah in their drawing rooms, there comes a temporary halt. An outstanding loan of the film's producer, K C Bokadia, has resulted in a stay on ``any further dealing with the audio-musical rights of the movie.''Pearl Video Films had lent Rs 10 lakh to Bokadia by way of an agreement in November 1996. It moved the Bombay High Court against the producer in April this year complaining that Bokadia had not made the payment on the due date. It was alleged that Bokadia had entered into a parallel agreement with Pen Audio Private Limited. As per new the agreement, musical rights were transferred to Pen Audio, which in turn was supposed to pay Rs 8 lakh to Pearl Video. Since the promised amount was not paid, Pearl Video filed a suit. The court then ordered Pen Audio to deposit Rs 5 lakh to the Prothonotary and Senior Master within four weeks. The audio company sought additional time to repay the debt, but the application was rejected. So far,the defendant parties have not complied with the April 29 court order. Therefore, Pearl Video advocates observe that until payment is made, the court has restrained Bokadia and Pen Audio from any dealing with the audio-musical rights of the film until the repayment of the loan amount. As a result, the telecast of the songs and promo of the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Lal Badshah are temporarily prohibited. The stay also extends to the sale and circulation of the audio cassettes of the movie. Pearl Video's advocate S C Bansal has issued a public notice informing all television networks and satellite channels not to display the film songs/excerpts. The Bansal & Bansal Advocates have warned the television channels of contempt of court proceedings. Copyright © 1998 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
